Speed Art Museum

Louisville, Kentucky

The J.B. Speed Art Museum is an 80,000 square foot facility housing a large and varied collection. Built in stages over 60 years, the building was inadequate for the size of the collection but could not be expanded beyond its existing footprint. Peter Rose + Partners prepared a Master Plan which emphasized research, analysis and evaluation of the existing building as well as the identification of necessary improvements to the building’s infrastructure, detailed cost estimating, and analysis of phasing options. Implementation of the Master Plan including renovation would total $30 million. Phase I of three phases of renovations and additions was initiated after the client’s modification of the scope of work.
